Abstract

In the content of this study, swelling potential, one of the problem of the geotechnical engineering is investigated. Expansive soils are subjected to seasonal moisture content variation and they can exhibit large volume change as a result of this effect. In other words, expansive soils show swell or shrink behavior. Large damage in the engineering structures built on these soils can be observed. Therefore, it is important to investigate the swelling characteristics of soils for the safe and economic design of the engineering structures. In this study, in order to examine the relationship between the basic soil properties and swelling potential, multivariable linear regression analyses are carried out using swelling potential data set collected from the different locations of Nigde.
