Abstract
3 km long coastal zone in Yakacık township, 19 km from İskenderun, is faced with the erosion problem of a considerable degree. Due to the erosion, the morphological changes at the coastal region are determined by the pictures taken in the years 1979 and 1997. The results of the present study show that in this coastal region there exists a net longshore sediment transport towards the north. Therefore the longshore sediment transport is the most important factor affecting the erosion process of the alluvial coastal area.

İskenderun'a 19 km mesafedeki Yakacık bucağında yaklaşık 3 km uzunluğundaki bir kıyı kesimi önemli ölçüde erozyona maruz bulunmaktadır. Erozyon nedeniyle kıyı bölgesinde meydana gelen morfolojik değişimler 1979 ve 1997 yıllarında çekilen fotoğraflarla tesbit edilmiştir. Yapılan hesaplar, kıyı bölgesinde kuzeye doğru net bir kıyıboyu sediment taşınımının varlığını göstermiştir. Dolayısıyla, alüvyon formasyonundaki bölgede kıyıboyu sediment taşınımı erozyon sürecini etkileyen en önemli etken durumundadır.
