Abstract

Objective: The study aimed to compare results of saccade, smooth pursuit and optokinetic tests and obtaine in different age groups is to investigate age-related differences. Material-Method: Each group included 30 healthy participants who did not have dizziness, neurological disease and able to do the tests. Gaze, Spontaneous Nystagmus, Saccade, Smooth pursuit and Optokinetic tests were applied. Statistical evaluation was made with One-way Anova and TUKEY tests. Results: Nystagmus was not observed in any of the participants in gaze and spontaneous nystagmus tests. There was no significant difference between the groups in saccade velocity, accuracy and optokinetic gain values. The mean left horizontal saccade latency of 50-70 age group was significantly higher than young adult and pediatric groups; the mean right horizontal in 50-70 age group was significantly higher than the young adult group. The mean smooth pursuit gain in 0.1Hz and 0.2 Hz left horizontal of young adult group was significantly higher 50-70 age group; the mean 0.1 Hz left horizontal gain in young adult group significantly higher pediatric and 50-70 age groups. The mean smooth pursuit asymmetry in 0.2Hz left horizontal of 50-70 age group was significantly higher than young adult and pediatric groups; the mean 0.2Hz right horizontal gain in 50-70 age group was significantly higher than young adult group; the mean 0.4Hz left horizontal gain in pediatric and 50-70 age groups were significantly higher than young adult group. Conclusions: Age related difference can be obtained in oculomotor test batteries. For this reason, using age-dependent normative data in the analysis will increase the reliability of the results.
