Abstract

Many countries aim to substantially increase the level of technology to achieve a higher level of economic growth and development, and to adapt to the latest technologies created by globalization in economic, social and cultural fields. One of the most important preconditions of new technology is information. There has been lots of studies focus on the economic effects of information and communication technologies (ICT) for decades. This study analyzes the impact of ICT on Turkey’s exports performance by using the data for around 200 countries and for the period 2007-2018. A standard gravity model is augmented with alternative variables for ICT. Main results of the analysis point out that ICT increases Turkey’s exports. The findings also show that the strength of the nexus of ICT and export can matter according to regional trade agreements. All results of the study are supported by the robustness check.
