Abstract

Objective: The aim of the study was to compare early and late clinical outcomes of patients with moderate surgical risk with advanced aortic stenosis who underwent transcatheter aortic valve implantation or surgical aortic valve replacement. Material and Method: As a retrospective study, patients in the moderate surgical risk group have been included from the patients with advanced aortic stenosis who underwent transcatheter aortic valve implantation or surgical aortic valve replacement at Ataturk University, Faculty of Medicine, University Hospital between the years 2012‐2018. Results: The mean age of the transcatheter aortic valve implantation group was 76.4±8.79 and the surgical aortic valve replacement group was 70.72± 5.08 in our study. There was no statistically significant difference in mortality, survival rates and periods during the total follow‐up of both groups. Ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, acute renal failure, major cardiovascular and noncardiac outcomes have been observed with similar frequency in both groups in the early and late period. Conclusion: In severe aortic stenosis patients with moderate surgical risk in our clinic, transcatheter aortic valve implantation has been found to be at least as applicable and useful as surgery, transcatheter aortic valve implantation and surgical aortic valve replacement are successfully implemented in our center.
