Abstract

Introduction and Aim: Fever is one ofthe most common complaints ofinfectious diseases. In this study, we aimed to determine mothers' knowledge of fever and by detecting the deficiencies, we aim to contribute to educational programs. Material and Methods: We interviewed with 1099 mothers with a 21-question survey at the outpatient clinics ofZeynep Kamil Maternity and Childrens Diseases Training and Education State Hospital between June 2009-March 2010. Results: There was a statistically significant relationship between the fever knowledge level and the mothers' age, profession, income level, number ofchildren, how she does peripheral cooling, which degree is considered as fever and the duration of thermometer usage (p0.05). Discussion: National and international studies reveal that mothers 'knowledge about fever and usage of thermometer is increasing over years. However, there are still deficiencies in the mothers' attitudes towards fever.
