Abstract

Abstract: L-Camitine is an essential quarternary amine having an important role in the |3- oxidation of fatty-acids. Although L-Carriitine was shown to be protective against toxic effects of some chemicals, dose-effect relationship with respect to antioxidant action and protection from lipid peroxidation is unknown. To evaluate dose-response profile of L-Carnitine on blood sialic acid, glutathione, malondialdehyde concentrations, 40 mice were allocated to 4 groups, and the groups were applied with intraperitoneal saline for 5 days (Group 1), L-Carnitine at 100 mg/kg for 5 days (Group 2), L-Carnitine at 250 mg/kg for 5 days (Group 3), L-Carnitine at 500 mg/kg for 5 days (Group 4). Following the treatments, blood samples were collected, and blood glutathione, malondialdehyde, sialic acid concentrations were determined. L-Carnitine provided antioxidant action at doses of 100, 250 and 500 mg/kg with the strongest antioxidant action observed at 500 mg/kg dose. These results suggest that L-Carnitine has antioxidant effect as dose-dependent manner.

Özet

Özet: L-karnitin yağ asitlerin beta-oksidayonunda önemli role sahip esansiyel bir kuvarterner amin türevidir. L-karaitinin bazı kimyasalların toksik etkilerine karşı koruyucu etkisi gösterilmişse de, anti- oksidant ve lipid peroksidasyonuyla ilgili doz-etki ilişkisi bilinmemektedir. L-kamitinin kandaki sialik asit, glutatyon ve malondialdehit konsantrasyonları üzerindeki doz-etki ilişkisini incelemek için, 40 adet fare 4 gruba.ayrıldı. Grup l'deki farelere L-karnitin 100 mg/kg, grup 2'deki fareler 250 mg/kg, grup 3'deki farelere 500 mg/kg 5 gün boyunca intraperitonal olarak uygulandı.
