Abstract

Introduction: Female sexual dysfunction (FSD) affecting 22% to 93% of women according to age group. In our study we aimed to investigate the prevalence and risk of sexual dysfunction in female hospital staff. Materials and Methods: A total of 132 premenopousal women were included in this study, who are working as a resident, nurse, officer or cleaner in Dokuz Eylül University Hospital. All women and their partners were sexually active. We evaluated all the women enrolled in the study by taking a medical and sexual history, administering the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI). Prevalence and risk factors for FSD including; age, lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), mode of delivery and working status and time were determined. Results: Mean age and FSFI scores of the all recipients were 32.4±5.9 year and 27.7±6.2, respectively. According to total FSFI score (<26.55) there were 38 (28.6%) subjects had FSD. Mean age and sexual intercourse frequency were statistically significant between the goups with and without FSD (31.7±5.3 vs 34.3±7.1 year; p<0.05 and 7.4±5.1 vs 4.0±3.6; p<0.001, respectively). Number of working nights, working hours were not statistically different (p>0.05). FSFI scores were lower in subjects with LUTS and vaginal delivery group than those compared groups. Conclusion: Prevalence of FSD is significantly high in premenopousal female hospital staff. Effects of age on female sexual dysfunction take start in young ages. Number of working nights and working time do not affect sexual functions significantly in female hospital staff. This may be due to the decreased number of working nights and working time with increasing age
