Abstract

Depending on the increasing amount of natural (ecological) food consumption, trade of medical and aromatic plants has been dramatically improved. Studies on the aromatic plant agriculture, previously collected from the nature, have been accelerated. Prohibiting the use of antibiotics in animal nutrition has motivated consumers to prefer the foods produced under ecological and natural conditions. Aromatic plants and their volatile fats are the products that support these conditions. The use of aromatic plants and their volatile fats for the purpose of animal nutrition has reached to an important position in animal nutrition activities. In that review, chemical composition, mechanism of action and possibilities to use aromatic plants and their extracts in animal nutrition was discussed. The aromatic plants grown in Turkey and some suggestion to increase the production facilities were also explained.
