Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the fattening performance, slaughtering and carcass characteristics in the Limousin X Holstein $F_1$ crossbreds. For this research 8 male and 10 female crossbred calves were used. For groups of Limousin X Holstein male and female crosses, body weight averaged 71.75 and 69.60 kg at the beginning of fattenning, 501.9 and 498.1 kg at the end, respectively.In addition.the average of duration of fattening, ages of slaughter; daily weight gains and the average intakes of dry matter per kg of live weight gains for males and females were found as 389.2 and 471.4 days; 450.9 and 532.3 days; 1140 and 919 g; and 6.36 and 7.50 kg, respectively. There were significant differences between sex groups in respect to daily weight gain, duration of fattening and age at slaughter (P<0.05). At the end of fattening period, the average hot and cold carcass weights were found to be 296.41 and 289.84 kg for male crosses; 283.13 and 276.52 kg for female crosses. The differences between the sex groups in respect to these values were statistically significant (P<0.001). The averages of hot and cold dressing percentages, percentage of bone, internal fat and kidney fat were found to be 59.06 %, 57.75 %, 18.14 %, 8.87 kg and 5.80 kg in male crosses and 56.85 %, 55.52 %, 15.70 %, 13.60 kg and 13.98 kg in female crosses, respectively.
