Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine the physical activity profile of two special education and rehabilitation centers (SERCs) including and not including physical activity applications among the services they provide for the individuals with special needs. The research was patterned in the nested multiple-case design out of the qualitative research approaches. Two SERC directors from Cankaya and Yenimahalle, districts of Ankara, participated in the research. The research data was obtained with semi-structured interviews. Descriptive and content analysis methods were used in the analysis of the obtained data. Two categories were obtained as a result of the data analysis. These categories are the profiles of SERCs in regard to physical activity applications and the awareness levels of the SERC directors for the effects of physical activity applications. The research findings reveal that both directors of the institutions are aware of the effects of the physical activity applications on the individuals with special needs. In the one of institution, it is detected that no physical activity application is included due to the fact that physical activity applications were not made obligatory in the relevant regulations, these applications were not demanded by the families.

Özet

Bu araştırmanın amacı, özel gereksinimli bireylere yönelik sunduğu hizmetler arasında fiziksel aktivite uygulamalarına yer veren ve vermeyen iki özel eğitim ve rehabilitasyon merkezinin (ÖERM) fiziksel aktivite profilinin incelenmesidir. Araştırma nitel araştırma yaklaşımlarından iç içe geçmiş çoklu durum modelinde desenlenmiştir. Araştırmaya Ankara ili Çankaya ve Yenimahalle ilçelerindeki iki ÖERM’nin müdürü katılmıştır. Araştırma verileri yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler aracılığıyla elde edilmiştir. Elde edilen verilerin analizinde betimsel analiz ve içerik analizi yöntemlerinden yararlanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi sonucu iki kategoriye ulaşılmıştır. Bu kategoriler, ÖERM’lerin fiziksel aktivite uygulamalarına ilişkin profilleri ve ÖERM müdürlerinin fiziksel aktivite uygulamalarının etkilerine yönelik farkındalık düzeyleridir. Araştırma bulguları, her iki kurum müdürünün de fiziksel aktivite uygulamalarının özel gereksinimli bireyler üzerindeki etkileri konusunda farkındalık sahibi olduğunu ortaya koymuştur.
