Abstract

Environmental pollution is threatening ecosystem and people more and more every day and this is also true for Van Lake. For this purpose, the changes of some metal levels according to different ages of Van Fish (Alburnus tarichi, Güldenstädt 1814) were investigated. In the study, muscle, liver, gill, kidney, intestine, gonad and brain tissues of Van fish were taken. Inductively-coupled plasma-optic emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) was used to determine levels of beryllium (Be), bismuth (Bi), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), iron (Fe), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), selenium (Se), manganese (Mn) cobalt (Co), chromium (Cr), lithium (Li) calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na) and potassium (K). The results were evaluated as toxic elements, trace elements and macro elements. The highly toxic elements such as Be, Bi, Pb and Cd were detected in Van fish tissues. In particular, concentrations of them in the brain tissue were observed to be higher. The concentration of Ni metal in the brain tissue was found to be higher than other tissues. In general, it was determined that metal values of the 5-year-old group were significant although there was no difference between the metal concentration values of the 3-year and 4-year groups (p<0.05).
