Abstract

This study was performed to evaluate the features of articular involvement and the clinical status of patients with brucellosis who have articular complaints. We found axial and/or peripheral articular involvement in 20 patients who were included in the study. The involvement was as sacroileitis in 8 patients (40 %), peripheral monoarthritis in 6 patients (30 %), peripheral oligoarthritis in 2 patients (10 %), sacroileitis and peripheral monoarthritis in 2 patients (10 %), spondilitis in 1 patient (5 %), spondilitis, sacroileitis and peripheral arthritis in 1 patient (5 %). The most affected joints were; sacroiliac joint in 11 (55 %), hip joint in 6 (30 %), knee joint in 4 (20 %), ankle in 3 (15 %) and shoulder in 1 (5 %) patient, respectively. The most common symptoms in patients were; sweating (95 %), arthralgia (80 %), fever (75 %), fatigue (75 %), low back pain (55 %), myalgia (30 %), insomnia (5 %), headache (20 %), weight loss (20 %), nausea-vomiting (15 %), abdominal pain (15 %). constipation (10 %), respectively. Brucellosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients who have joint complaints especially in the endemic areas.
