Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the health literacy levels of factory employees and to examine the sociodemographic characteristics affecting them. Material and Method: This study was carried out in two separate factories with 437 individuals in Bilecik/Turkey. Data Collection Form which contains the descriptive features of individuals and Adult Health Literacy Scale were used to collect data. Findings: The mean score obtained from the scale was 13.32±3.62. It was determined thatthere was no relationship between age and income status of the participants and the scale scores; marital status, current chronic disease, state of surgery and hearing problems was not affecting the scale results. It was determined that the scale scores were higher in females than males and were lower in with visual problems. Conclusion: At the end of the study, it was determined that the health literacy scores of the participants were 13 points out of 23 points. It can be thought that the reason for the high scores of women is due to the fact that they are at the forefront in the caregiving role in the family. Plans can be made to increase the health literacy of people who have vision problems at a level that prevents them from reading.
