Abstract

Purpose: Early post operative complications after pars plana vitrectomy operations are evaluated in this study. Material and Methods: The patients included in this study were operated and followed between November 1995-November 1999. From 326 patients that could be followed regularly, 186 eyes of 186 patients were included in this study. Mean age of patients was 47.4 years (2-77 years), from them 133 (%71.5) were male and 53 (%28.5) of them were female subjects. Mean follow up period was 22 months (range 2-44 months). Results: Of operated patients as early postoperative complications hypotony was found in 26 (%13.9), increased intraocular pressure (IOP) in 23 (%12.36), corneal edema in 26 (%13.9), intravitreal bleeding in 14 (%7.52) and intraocular inflammation in 4 (%2.15) patients. Conclusion : After pars plana vitrectomy operation, early post operative complications can seriously affect long term results. Diagnosis and treatment of early post operative complications is very important for long term prognosis.
