Abstract

Background: The purpose of this case report is to illustrate the importance of sonography in detecting Turner Syndrome and giving the decision of terminating these pregnancies based upon sonography when parents decline further invasive prenatal examination. Case: We report a case in which cystic hygroma and generalized edema in the fetus was diagnosed and the parents declined further invasive prenatal diagnosis. The pregnancy was terminated. Necropsy and postmortem chromosomal analysis revealed Turner Syndrome. Conclusion: Careful ultrasonographic examination of hygroma colli and associated malformations may help giving the decision to terminate an existing pregnancy when parents decline further invasive prenatal diagnosis.
