Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate whether there are changes in left and right ventricular diastolic functions in type-II diabetes after six mounth insulin therapy. Materials and Methods: Thirty five consecutive patients with newly diagnosed type-II diabetes were studied by echocardiography, and their fasting glucose and HbA1c were studied before and after 6 months insulin therapy. By using Doppler tissue imaging, peak early diastolic (Em), peak late diastolic (Am) and peak sistolic annular (Sm) velocities were measured from both left and right ventricles. The Em/Am ratio was determined. Results: Although fasting glucose and HbA1c were significantly different (before therapy (BT)=286.11±150.42, after therapy (AT)=164.97±39.75, p<0.001), blood pressure, heart rate and echocardiographic parameters did not change after therapy (Sm; BT=9.81±2.09, AT=10.05±2.13, p=0.422, Em; BT=7.81±2.19, AT=8.08±2.01, p=0.328, Am; BT=8.27±2.66, AT=8.77±2.59, p=0.062, Em/Am; BT=0.98±0.21, AT=0.95±0.18, p=0.156). Conclusion: It was demonstrated that insulin therapy in the patients of type-II diabetes did not affect left and right ventricle diastolic parameters

Bulgular: AKŞ ve HbA1c tedavi sonrasında önemli derecede farklı olmasına rağmen (tedavi öncesi (TÖ)=286.11±150.42, tedavi sonrası (TS)=164.97±39.75, p<0,001), ortalama kan basıncı, kalp hızı ve ekokardiyografik parametrelerde (Sm; TÖ=9.81±2.09, TS=10.05±2.13, p=0.422, Em; TÖ=7.81±2.19, TS=8.08±2.01, p=0.328, Am; TÖ=8.27±2.66, TS=8.77±2.59, p=0.062, Em/Am; TÖ=0.98±0.21, TS=0.95±0.18, p=0.156) tedavi sonrasında değişiklik gözlenmedi. Sonuç: Tip-II diyabetik hastalarda kan şekeri kontrolünün sağ ve sol ventrikül diyastolik fonksiyonları etkilemediği gösterildi.
