Abstract

Aim: Pulse pressure (PP) may easily be affected by the abnormal changes in the arterial elastic structures due to atherosclerosis. Thus it could be an earlier hemodynamic indicator for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. We aimed to evaluate any probable relationship between PP and anatomy and severity of coronary artery disease. Material and Method: Three hundred and fifty patients (age 59,4±12,5 and 37,7% (132) female) who were performed coronary angiography were consecutively enrolled. Demographics, laboratory parameters and pulse pressure of the patients were recorded. Relationship between the PP and properties of coronary artery lesions was statistically analyzed. Results: Age, hypertension, triglyceride level and PP were the variables that could significantly predict the coronary artery disease (exp β=1,01, CI 1,002-1,02, p<0,05). Coronary artery disease was significantly higher in patients with PP over 60 mmHg. Although number of coronary artery disease (single, two and three vessel, and noncritical lesion) was slightly higher in those patients with PP over 60 mmHg there was not any significant difference about distribution and number of coronary lesions. Conclusion: PP may be used to determine the patients at high risk among the subjects selected according to the risk factors in order to plan further test and coronary imaging.
