Abstract

AIM: The objective of the present study was to describe clinical features and medium term follow-up of patients with myocardial infarction and normal coronary arteries. PATIENTS AND RESULTS: Between June 1994 and April 1996, 3120 coronary angiographies were performed in our clinic. During this period 15 patients (10 men, 5 women) with mean age of 46.8±8.7 years (34-63) with documented myocardial infarction and completely normal coronary arteries were identified. According to the ECG criteria there was no predilection for a specific location of MI (6 anterior MIs, 8 inferior MIs and 1 posterior). Thrombolytic therapy was performed in 2 patients. In 7 patients areas of localized hypo- or akinesia were shown on left ventricular cineangiography. The mean ejection fraction was 61.6±10 %. Most of them (11 patients, 73%) are cigarette smokers. During a mean follow-up period of 50.4±5.7 (44-66 months) no patient died and no patient suffered from angina pectoris or heart failure. CONCLUSION: Patients with acute MI and angiographically normal coronary arteries seem to have a favorable prognosis.

(6 anterior, 8 inferior, I posterior).
