Abstract

Mitral Stenosis (MS) is the most common heart valve disease in pregnant women and it may lead to deleterious effect on mother and fetus. The risk of systemic embolism in these patients is between 10-20% and the risk is being increased if atrial fibrillation existed. The related guidelines on this topic recommend anticagulation therapy in setting of pregnancy complicated with both MS and atrial fibrillation, however role of anticoagulation in case of sinus rhythm is unclear. It is well konown that pregnancy itself is related with increased coagulation factors which may results in hypercoagulability state and thromboembolic events. Herein we would like to share a case of pregnancy complicated with atrial thromus in setting of sinus rhythm and review of related literatures on this topic.
