Abstract

Aim: In this study, the efficiency of aggressive lipid lowering treatment in patients who are symptomatic despite maximal antiischemic treatment and who can not be revascularized is investigated. Material and Methods: The study included 42 (age=68±10 years) patients who are symptomatic despite maximal antiishemic treatment. The control group included 12 patients (age=64±11 years) in whom lipid lowering treatment can not be given because of various reasons. In the lipid lowering group, 21 patients were given atorvastatin to achieve the target LDL-cholesterol <70 mg/dL; the other 21 patients were given atorvastatin to achieve the target LDL-cholesterol=70-100 mg/dL. After achieving the target LDL-cholesterol, the treatment was continued for 6 months when the 24 hours-Holter monitoring were done. In statistical comparisons, Mann-Whitney U test was used. Significance was set at p=0.05. The silent ischemia attacks were determined in each patient. Results: The study showed that, silent ichemic attacks were lower in agresive lipid lowering group. Conclusion: Agressive lipid lowering treatment provides better symptomatic relief when compared to the conventional therapy and control groups.
