Abstract

AIM: In this study, we aimed to investigate the long term effect of ramipril in normotensive cases with impaired glucose tolerance according to criteria of American Diabetes Association (ADA). MATERIAL AND METHOD: One hundred fifty two normotensive cases with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) were included in this study. 2.5 mg ramipril+diet were given to 76 cases, placebo+diet to other 76 cases for an average of 47±4 months. Clinical and laboratory investigations of all cases were recorded by 24 week intervals. RESULTS: At the end of the study, in the ramipril group the number of cases whose impaired glucose tolerance improved was higher (p=0.001). However the number of the cases that new diabetes developed and who had major cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, stroke, revascularization procedure, heart failure) were higher in placebo group (p=0.033, p=0.021). CONCLUSION: It was assumed that while ramipril increased the conversion of IGT to normal in normotensive cases with IGT, decreased major cardiovascular events and development of de novo diabetes.

Özet

AMAÇ: Bu çalışmada, American Diabetes Association (ADA) kriterlerine göre bozulmuş glukoz toleranslı normotansif vakalarda, ramipril'in uzun dönemde etkisini incelemeyi amaçladık.
