Abstract

Objective: Index of cardiac electrophysiological balance has been described as a novel risk marker for predicting malignant ventricular arrhythmia. In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between rheumatic heart disease and index of cardiac electrophysiological balance, Tp-e interval, Tp-e/QT ratio and frequency of fQRS. Material and Method: 110 patients with rheumatic heart disease and 100 healthy subjects were included in the study. Both groups underwent a standard 12-lead surface electrocardiogram and QT interval, QRS interval, Tp-e interval, Tp-e/QT ratio and index of cardiac electrophysiological balance were recorded. Results: The index of cardiac electrophysiological balance and ciCEB values were similar between the groups. QT dispersion, Tp-e interval, and Tp-e/QT ratio were significantly higher in the rheumatic heart disease group compared to the control group (p <0.001 for all). In addition, the frequency of fQRS was higher in the rheumatic heart disease group (p=0.033). There was a significant negative correlation between the duration of penicillin use and the cTp-e/QT ratio (r=-0.481, p <0.001). Conclusion: The QT dispersion and cTp-e interval were prolonged in patients with rheumatic heart disease, while the cTp-e/QT ratio and the frequency of fQRS were increased.
