Abstract

Objective: It’s suggested that drug eluting stents may have systemic anti-inflammatory properties. The aim of this study was to com- pare C-reactive protein levels in bare metal stents and drug eluting stent implanted patients after percutaneous coronary intervention at three months and by this way to clarify if there is a difference in terms of inflammation between the groups. Material and Method: The patients under going elective stent implantation were grouped according to the stent type as bare metal stent (n=63) and drug eluting stent (n=112). Basal and 3 rd month hs-C-reactive protein levels were measured and the difference (Δ-CRP) was compared between the groups. Results: Mean age was 62±10 and 77.7% were males. There wasn't any significiant difference between the groups with regards to clin- ical and demographic properties. Multiple stent implantation was significiantly more in bare metal stent group (p=0,023) according to angiographic features. At three months, hsCRP levels were significiantly less than basal levels (p=0,005 for bare metal stent and p<0,001 for drug eluting stent) but there was no significiant difference between the groups (p=0,9). Conclusion: The results obtained with this study indicated that C-reactive protein levels between bare metal stents group and drug elut- ing stents group at three months were similar. These results can be interpreted as drug eluting stent don't have systemic antiinflama- tory or proinflamatory effects.

Bulgular: Hastaların yaş ortalaması 62 olup %78’i erkek idi.
