Abstract

Purpose: To determine the biometric data of the eyes with angle-closure glaucoma (ACG), and calculate their relative risks for ACG. Material and Methods: This study was carried out in the department of ophthalmology, Medical School, Karadeniz Technical University, between March 1994 and September 2002. Biometric data were obtained from normal eyes (193 eyes) and the eyes (52 eyes) with ACG. The anterior chamber depth (ACD), lens thickness (LT) and axial length (AL) were measured with A- mode ultrasonography in all eyes. In statistical analysis, relative risks of the parameters were calculated with logistic regression analysis. Results: The biometric data of the eyes with ACG were significantly different from normal eyes (p<0.05). We found that the ACD has the highest relative risk for ACG (beta= 21.8, p<0.001). Conclusion: Although lens thickness plays an important role in the mechanism of ACG, ACD is a more powerful indicator for ACG. Therefore, in the follow-up of suspected eyes for ACG, more attention should be addressed to ACD.
