Abstract

This study, which is an ophthalmologic survey, has been organized as apart of the project of FİŞEK Institute, on health and social service of children working in small commercial places, by the light of ILO's IPEC project. During November 1993, all 925 male students of Ostim Apprenticeship Education Center have been evaluated. The ages ranged from 11 to 21 (mean: 16.09) years. The proportion of colour blindness was 6.4%, green deficiency 4.7%, red deficiency 1.5%, total color blindness 0.2%. In children who were born to consanguineous marriages, co¬lor blindness was twice more frequent. Except the ones who have total color blindness, there was no significant statistical difference with respect to the other ophthal¬mologic pathologies. As a result, we think that, examina¬tion of colour blindness must also be a part of physical examination which is being held on at the beginning of apprenticeship education.
