Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the refractive status of exotropic children under 7 years. Material and Method: Forty exotropic patients who were examined between March 2005 and May 2006 in our hospital were included to our study. Patient files were inspected retrospectively. Nineteen patients were female (%47.5) and 21 patients were male (%52.5). Mean age was 4.6 ±1.6 (1-7) years. Autorefraction (ARF) measures of the patients were done with and without cycloplegia. Results: Mean ARF measures of the patients with cycloplegia was +1.45 spherically and - 1.42 cylindrically. Mean ARF measures of the patients without cycloplegia was + 0.30 sperically and -1.41 cylindrically. These results were obtained by measuring all of the eyes. The mean deviation amount without corrective spectacles was 18.3 (6-45) prism dioptry for near and 23.3 (8-45) prism dioptry for distance. Conclusion: The refractive evaluation of early childhood exotropia showed low grade hipermetropia and astigmatism
