Abstract

Aim: To assess retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients by using scanning laser polarimetry (NFA-GDx). Materials and Methods: Twenty-one patients with AD were included in this study. Scanning laser polarimetry could not performed in 5 AD patients. Sixteen patients (Group 1) were evaluated by NFA-GDx. Twenty-seven individuals (Group 2) constituted the control group. All subjects underwent a complete eye examination. Results: When we compared GDx parameters between the two groups, there were no significant differences between group 1 and 2 (p>0.05). We determined glaucoma in 2 of 21 Alzheimer’s patients [Primary open angle glaucoma in one AD patient (2 eyes) and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma in one AD patient (2 eyes)]. Conclusions: Our results did not show reduced RNFL thickness in AD patients
