Abstract

Aim: To compare retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness and optic disk parameters (ONH) in patients with mild Graves\\\' ophthalmopathy (GO) and in healthy controls. Material and Method: 16 eyes from both GO (Group 1) and apparently healthy (Group 2) patients were included in the study. There were no signs of restrictive myopathy or compressive optic neuropathy and clinical history of medical or surgical therapy in Group 1. Complete ophthalmic examination, RNFL thickness measurement and ONH assessment with Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) were assessed for all patients. Mann-Whitney U test was used for statistical analysis. Results: No significant difference was found regarding mean age, mean Hertel exophthal- mometer value, visual acuity and central corneal thickness between groups. Although intraocular pressures (IOP) were normal in both groups, there were statistically significant differ- ences in several RNFL parameters in OCT (p<0.05). Conclusion: Although IOP values are measured as normal, some abnormalities might be observed in OCT analysis. Further prospective research should be conducted to explore etio- logical causes of OCT abnormalities.

Sonuç: Hafif GO olgularında GİB normal olmasına rağmen OCT incelemesinde anormallikler görülebilmektedir. OCT değişikliklerinin etyolojik nedenlerine yönelik ileri prospektif çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır.
