Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate certain ocular and systemic risk factors in patients with central retinal vein occlusion Material and Method: Forty patients with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) were enrolled in this study. As a control group, 38 cases without ocular diseases were also enrolled randomly. In two study groups, some ocular (axial length, refraction, intraocular pressure) and systemic risk factors (hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, smoking, chlosterol, sedimentation rate) were assessed. Results: In patients with CRVO, ocular axial length, intraocular pressure measurments, primary open-angle glaucoma, cardiovascular disease, sedimentation rate, lipoprotein (a) and fibrinogen levels were significantly higher than those of the controls (p<0.05). No statistically significant correlation was found with the other risk factors such as hypermetropy, systemic hypertension, diabetes and smoking (p>0.05). Conclusion: These results suggest a relationship between CRVO and certain ocular and systemic risk factors (intraocular pressure, primary open-angle glaucoma, cardiovascular disease, sedimentation rate, lipoprotein (a) and fibrinogen levels). The finding also support the potential value of medical treatment of underlying medical conditions in preventing occurence of CRVO.

Özet

Amaç: Santral retina ven tikanikligi olan olgularda bazi oküler ve sistemik risk faktörlerini degerlendirmek. Gereç ve Yöntem: Santral retina ven tikanikligi (SRVT) tanisi almis 40 olgu çalismaya dahil edildi. Rastgele seçilmis 38 kisiden kontrol grubu olusturuldu. SRVT grubunda ve kontrol grubunda yer alan olgularda bazi oküler (aksiyel uzunluk, refraksiyon, göziçi basinci) ve sistemik risk faktörleri (hipertansiyon, diabetes mellitus, kardiyovasküler hastalik, sigara içimi, kolesterol, sedimentasyon gibi) degerlendirildi. Bulgular: Santral retina ven tikanikligi bulunan olgularda, oküler aksiyel uzunluk, GIB ölçümleri, PAAG, kardiyovasküler hastalik, sedimentasyon hizi, lipoprotein (a) ve fibrinojen düzeyleri kontrol grubuna göre anlamli olarak daha yüksek bulundu (p 0.05). Sonuç: Bu sonuçlar SRVT ile bazi oküler ve sistemik risk faktörleri (aksiyel uzunluk, GIB yüksekligi, PAAG, kardiyovasküler hastalik, sedimentasyon hizi, lipoprotein (a) ve fibrinojen düzeyleri) arasinda iliski oldugunu göstermektedir. Ayni zamanda bu bulgular SRVT nin olusumunun önlenmesinde altta yatan sebeplerin tibbi tedavisinin potansiyel degeri oldugunu desteklemektedir.
