Abstract

Aim: To evaluate the results of blepharoplasty operations performed in our clinic. Material and Method: Patients lid crease, interpalpebral distance and symmetry were recorded before and after blepharoplasty surgery. The incision line was graded for scar and the correlation with the suture technique was evaluated. Complications which occurred during or after surgery were recorded. Dry eye tests were also performed before and after the surgical procedure. Results were statistically analysed. Results: Symmetry was achieved in 92.5% of the patients. Except for one patient, no asymmetry greater than 2mm was seen. In a patient in whom asymmetry in the lid crease was detected during surgery, symmetry was also achieved after grafting with the patient's own lid skin. Although more scar was observed in the subcuticular suture group than the external running suture, none of the cases had prominent scarring. Tear break up time was increased from a preoperative time of 9.10 sec to a postoperative 10.30 sec.(p=0.46) Conclusion: Blepharoplasty is a successful surgical procedure in selected patients. Most frequent complication was found to be asymmetry. A careful evaluation before and during surgery is very important in preventing complications.
