Abstract

Objective: To assess visual outcomes after bilateral implantation of a hydrophobic, diffractive multifocal intraocular lens. Material and Method: Patients scheduled for standard cataract surgery underwent bilateral cataract removal via phacoemulsification and implantation of a diffractive, acrylic, hydrophobic, multifocal intraocular lens. The uncorrected and best corrected distance, intermediate, and near visual acuities of patients were measured preoperatively and at postoperative day 1, week 1, month 3, and month 6. At the first week control the distance contrast sensitivity at four different spatial frequencies (3, 6, 12, and 18; with and without glare) were also measured for all controls. Near contrast sensitivity was assessed via Colenbrander near contrast card visual acuity score. Patient satisfaction was evaluated by VF-14 questionnaire completion at postoperative month 6. Results: 38 eyes of 19 patients, mean age 65,7±8,2 (47-78) were included in the study. Of these, 9 (47,4%) were female and 10 (52,6%) were male. Visual acuities at all distances showed improvement by postoperative month 12 compared with preoperative measures. Although there were no significant statistical differencies, 12 month binocular distance contrast sensitivity values (with and without glare) for each spatial frequency showed improvement from postoperative control values. Binocular near contrast sensitivity improved from a visual acuity score of 82,1 at week 1 to 82,2 at postoperative month 12. (p<0,05). Patient satisfaction at postoperative month 12 was 1,22. As reflected by a mean at 6 month VF-14 score of 96.4±5.2 out of a possible 100. Conclusion: Diffractive multifocal intraocular lens appears to provide a good level of distance-to-near visual acuity, quality, and patient satisfaction by 12 months after implantation.

Her vizitte vizüel fonksiyon -14 anketi uygulandı. Bulgular: Hastaların 9’u (%47,4) kadın, 10’u (%52,6) erkek, yaş ortalaması ise 65,7±8,2 (47-78) idi. Postoperatif tüm mesafelerde görme keskinliklerinde anlamlı artış görüldü (p<0,05). Postoperatif binoküler kamaşmasız ve kamaşmalı kontrast duyarlılık değerlendirmesinde tüm frekanslarda 12. ay değerleri diğer vizitlere kıyasla yüksek bulunsa da istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark gözlenmedi. Binoküler yakın kontrast duyarlılık, 12. ayda (kontrast duyarlılığı skoru: 82,2) artış gösterdi (p<0,05). 12. ayda genel hasta memnuniyeti skorunun 1,22 olduğu görüldü ve vizüel fonksiyon-14 anket sonucu ortalama 96,4±5,2 saptandı. Sonuç: Difraktif multifokal göz içi lens implantasyonundan sonra 12. ayda iyi seviyelerde uzak, yakın, orta mesafe görme keskinliği sağlandığı ve hasta memnuniyetinde tatmin edici sonuçlar elde edildiği görülmektedir.
