Abstract

In the name of establishing the concept of transpearency as its primary concern, world of accounting is current- ly facing a number of various attempts and changes. When the recent time era with many scandals is observed, it is obvious that the accounting and the general management practices do not embrace the corporate governan- ce and the ethical values. In addition to the basic concept of ethics, ethical codes which aim to improve work ethics, ethical expectations, encourage ethical communication, ethical decision making, and prevent the misu- sage of authority, has become a necessity in order to prevent potential scandals and create transparent and ac- countable markets. The purpose of this study is to investigate how ethical codes are developed and how effec- tively they are applied in publicly held companies according to the Capital Markets and Turkish Commercial Code
