Abstract

Parkinson's disease (PD), which generally has a late onset (between age 50 and 60), is a chronic disease with a gradual progression. Juvenile Parkinson’s disease (JP) describes Parkinsonism manifesting before age 21. There is a high incidence of positive family history in JP. Besides motor symptoms, psychiatric disorders/ symptoms such as depression, anxiety, psychosis and sleep disturbances are also prevalent, in PD patients. Psychosis may be related to long term antiparkinsonian treatment. In this article, a case of JP in whom psychotic symptoms have developed after twenty years of antiparkinsonian therapy is discussed in order to address management strategies.
