Abstract

In this paper, we address endogenous sources of change within organizational fields. Our empirical context is Turkish unionism between 1947 and 1980. We examine how preexisting labor union cohorts constituted an organizational infrastructure that shaped development of new ones under emergent institutional logics. Findings reveal that founding rate of labor unions under a new logic was higher in local industries with a higher number of labor unions established under preexisting logics. For one cohort, founding rate was also lower in local industries where unions established under preexisting logics were older.
