Abstract

Objective: Helicobacter pylori (HP) is a gram-negative bacterium. As well as functional dyspepsia, peptic ulcer disease and some various related diseases, it may cause gastric adenocarcinoma and MALT (mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue) lymphoma. In recent years there are some studies investigating the relationship between iron defici- ency anemia (IDA) HP. In this study we investigated the relationship between IDA and HP. Material and Methods: Totally 121 patients were enrolled in the study, 64 being patient group were performed upper endoscopy with the diagnosis of IDA in internal medicine outpatient clinic and 57 being control group were perfor- med upper endoscopy for reasons out of IDA. The control group was selected randomly among patients who under- went upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy and don’t have anemia. The patients’ blood counts, endoscopic fin- dings and HP positivity was examined. HP positivity rates were compared in these two groups of patients. Results: HP positivity rate was found in patients. 41 (64 %) patients were HP positive, while 23 (36 %) were negative in anemic group. 30 (52 %) patients were HP positive and 27 (% 48) were negative (Table 1) (p<0,05) in the other group. Conclusion: HP positivity was higher in IDA group than the other group.

Özet

Amaç: Helikobacter Pylori (HP), gram-negatif bir bakteri- dir. Fonksiyonel dispepsi, peptik ülser ve çeşitli ilişkili has- talıklar dışında gastrik adenokarsinom ve MALT (mukoza ile ilişkili lenfoid doku) lenfomaya neden olabilmektedir. Son yıllarda DEA (demir eksikliği anemisi) ile HP arasın- daki ilişkiyi araştıran bazı çalışmalar mevcuttur. Çalışma- mızda HP ile DEA arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırdık. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışmamızda Şubat 2012-Temmuz 2013 tarihleri arasında iç hastalıkları polikliniğinde DEA etiyolojisi için üst gastrointestinal sistem (GİS) endoskopisi yapılan 64 kişi hasta grubu olarak, anemi dışı nedenlerle üst GİS endoskopi yapılan 57 kişi de kontrol grubu olmak üzere toplam 121 hasta çalışmaya alındı. Kontrol grubu anemisi olmayan üst gastrointestinal sistem endoskopisi ya- pılanlar arasından rastgele seçildi. Hastaların kan sayım- ları, endoskopik bulguları ve HP pozitifliği incelendi. Bu iki gruptaki hastaların HP pozitiflik oranları kıyaslandı. Bulgular: Hastalardaki HP pozitiflik oranı tespit edildi. Anemik grupta 41 (% 64) hastada HP pozitif iken, 23 (% 36) hastada negatif idi. Diğer grupta 30 (% 52) hastada HP pozitif iken, 27 (% 48) hastada negatif idi (Tablo 1) (p<0,05). Sonuç: DEA olan hastalarda, olmayanlara oranla HP po- zitiflik oranı daha yüksekti.
