Abstract

Background: This study evaluates the rate of reaching glyce- mic goals in patients with type-2 diabetes admitted to outpa- tient clinic of our internal medicine department and their medi- cation profile. Methods: A total of 375 diabetic patients visited the outpa- tient clinic of Internal Medicine Department within 3 months between March 2011 and May 2011. HbA1c levels, age of the patients, and medication were investigated. Medication pro- files of the patients with HbA1c levels of ≤7% (good glycemic control group) were evaluated. Results: Regardless of age, 66% of all patients (n=248) were in good glycemic control group. In patients that reached gly- cemic goal, 81% of them were using oral antidiabetics (OADs) (n=203); 15% of them (n=36) were using OADs and insulin; and only 4% of them (n=9) were using insulin. There were 169 patients who had diabetes 5 years or longer; in these patients, good glycemic control was seen in 36% of them (n=36). In these patients, 98% of them (n=61) were using OADs, and only 1 pa- tient (2%) was using insulin and OADs. Conclusion: In the diabetic population, increased disease du- ration is correlated with decreased glycemic control. In good glycemic control group, we unexpectedly observed that there were more patients under OAD medication than patients un- der insulin therapy.

Özet

Amaç: Bu çalışmada hastanemiz dahiliye polikliniğine baş- vuran tip 2 diyabetli hastalarında glisemik hedeflere ulaşma oranları ve glisemik hedefe ulaşanların ilaç kullanım profille- ri incelenmiştir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Mart 2011-Mayıs 2011 arasında üç ay bo- yunca hastanemiz İç Hastalıkları Polikliniğine başvuran 375 tip 2 diyabet tanılı hastanın HbA1c değerlerine bakıldı, has- talık yaşı ve ilaç kullanımı sorgulandı. HbA1c ≤%7 olan has- taların (iyi kontrol grubu) ilaç profilleri incelendi. İyi kontrol grubunda has- talık yaşı ilerledikçe insülin kullanımının artması beklenirken çalışmamızda oral antidiyabetik kullanan hastaların daha fazla olduğunu tespit ettik.
