Abstract

Major aim is to investigate Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection as a risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD). In this study 139 patients (aged 30 female, 109 male; aged mean 52$\pm$7) who performed coronary angiography with initial diagnosis of CAD were investigated. Just before coronary angiography, venous blood was taken from the patients and the relationship between CAD and HP seroactivity (IgG ve Ig A) was examined. For this reason the patients were separated into 3 groups who have 1, 2 and 3 vessel lesions and the results were compared with the group who have normal coronary angiography. 35 patients had 1 vessel, 34 had 2 vessel and 35 had 3 vessel disease. The control group consisted of 35 subjects. When the group with normal coronary arteries were compared with the groups of 1, 2 and 3 vessel lesions, no statistically significant difference was obtained considering HP, IgG and IgA antibody response (p>0.05). In this study HP positivity didn't show any difference between the control group and coronary angiographically proven CAD group which suggested that HP infection was not an independent risk factor for CAD.
