Abstract

In a case of acute developing abdominal pain, hepatomegaly and ascites one of the diagnosis to be considered at the first step is Budd-Chiari syndrome(BCS). BCS is a clinical condition that occurs as a result of disturbance of venous drainage of liver due to various reasons .Classically it occurs as a result of an obstruction of hepatic veins at the level of IVC and generally the causative factor is a thrombosis. There are variable risk factors underlying thromboembolic conditions. Among hereditary diseases activated protein C resistance due to Factor V Leiden mutation is the most commonly observed etiologic factor. Our case was carrying the typical clinical and laboratuary features of Budd-Chiari syndrome.
