Abstract

Objectıve:Being an easy applicable, cheap and minimally invasive technique hysterosalphingography is often used in investigation of infertility. However considering the successfulness of hysteroscopy and laparoscopy in accurate diagnosis, these methods were supposed to replace hysterosalphingography in some recent reports. In our study we compared these methods to determine the effectiveness of hysterosalphingography in diagnosis of pathologic conditions. Materıal and Methods:41 infertile patients who admitted to our hospital during January-December 2000 were included in our study.Hysteroscopy was first performed to the patients followed by hysteroscopy and/or laparoscopy. Results:In 21 of 27 patients who were investigated hysteroscopically hysterosalphingography suggested a pathology while 18 were pathologic in hysteroscopy. When compared with hysteroscopy hysterosalphingography were found to have high sensitivity and specificity in determining intrauterine pathologies.Of 29 patients who were found to have a pathology by HSG, 19 had peritubal adhesions in laparoscopic observation.Other ten diagnosis were not confirmed.High false positive rates were thought to be due to inappropriate HSG technique. Conclusıon:When we cosider our results we have the idea that HSG should be the first step in infertility patients provided that it is applied appropriately and evaluated by experienced physicians. We believe that laparoscopy and hysteroscopy are useful complementary techniques.

Özet

Amaç: Histerosalfıngografi, kolay uygulanabilir, ucuz ve minimal invazif bir teknik olması nedeniyle infertilitenin araştırmasında sıkça kullanılmaktadır. Bununla beraber histeroskopi ve laparoskopinin kesin tanıyı koymadaki başarısı göz önünde tutularak çeşitli yayınlarda bu yöntemlerin histerosalfıngografinin yerini alabileceği belirtilmektedir.Biz çalışmamızda her iki yöntemi karşılaştırarak histerosalfingografinin patolojileri göstermede etkinliğini saptamaya çalıştık.
