Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of methods for second trimester pregnancy termination. Material and Methods: A prospective, study of 91 woman undergoing pregnancy termination between 14 and 28 weeks gestation. Ninety one patients who were undergoing pregnancy termination were assigned to one of three groups: (I) Vaginal misoprostol (53 patients); (II) İntravenous infusion of concentrated oxytosin (20 patients); (III) Balon insertion (18 patients). Oxytosin infusion was used in all groups, when necessary to strengthen labor. Patients in whom effective uterine contractions and cervical dilatation was not obtained within 48 hours with the primer termination method were accepted as failure. Although an alternative termination method had been applied, 2 cases who were failed underwent histerotomy. Results: The efficacy of each methods were evaluated in terms of abortion within time. Abortion within 48 hours were achieved in %90.5 (48/53) of the patients in group 1; %85 (17/20) of the patient in groupII and %88.8 (16/18) of the patients in group III (p>0.05). The overall median induction-abortion interval ±S.D. (in h) in each group were as follows: group 1: 20.0±18.1 hours, group II: 18.4±14.0 hours, group III: 18.2±15.0 hours (p>0.05). Conlusion: In comparision with the three methods, there were no significant statistical differences in treatment, cervical ripening and induction-delivery interval between three groups.

91 hastada 3 terminasyon metodundan birisi kullanılmıştır.(Grup I) Vaginal mizoprostol kullanımı (53 hasta); (GrupII) Konsantre oksitosinin intravenöz infüzyonu (20 hasta);(Grup III) Balon uygulanımı (18 hasta).
