Abstract

The purpose of the study is to examine the knowledge and attitudes of counselors who provide psychological help in private institutions and organizations. Qualitative interviews were conducted with 16 volunteer counselors. Semi-structured questions were designed to determine the level of knowledge about the rules that counselors should obey for occupational ethics; the ethical dilemmas they have experienced; the sources they ask for help against ethical dilemmas, the level of knowledge about the situations that they should violate the confidentiality and their attitudes towards multiple relationships with the client. Responses were evaluated by content analysis techniques. The results indicated that the most important professional ethic principle is confidentially. The most experienced ethical dilemmas are about confidentially and competence. It is argued that the confidentially of the client may be violated if there is a vital danger.
