Abstract

The behaviour of the employees of an organization which manifests itself as reticence in voicing their opinions, suggestions, and concerns about the work, the workplace, and other activities is defined as organizational silence. In present-day economies where organizations endeavour to create value, a moderate climate within an organization would influence its employees, turning their energy into synergy and making a positive contribution to the organization. In this context, efficiency in employees’ work relations and interactions with the management and other employees will result in behavioural consistency and eliminate organizational cynicism which reduces organizational commitment and hampers effective work. Two important concepts that have gained significance in organizational behaviour studies in recent years are organizational silence and organizational cynicism. The present study is based on the assumption of a possible link between organizational silence and organizational cynicism in the tourism industry, where human relations are in the foreground, customer satisfaction is essential, and new, creative, and different thoughts are always needed. In order to contribute to the debate, this study has a comparative approach to the effects of organizational silence on organizational cynicism. It is expected to be of use to practitioners and theoretical workers in the field.

Özet

Örgüt çalışanlarının; işi, işyeri ve diğer faaliyetleriyle ilgili düşünce, öneri ve kaygılarını dile getirmemeleri şeklinde ortaya çıkan davranış biçimi örgütsel sessizlik olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Örgütlerin değer yaratmaya çalıştığı günümüz ekonomisinde, örgüt içerisinde meydana getirilecek olan ılımlı bir iklimin, örgüt çalışanlarını etkisi altına alarak, çalışanların enerjilerini sinerji haline dönüştürecek ve örgüte olumlu katkılar sağlayacaktır. Bu kapsamda işgörenlerin, yönetici ve örgütün diğer çalışanlarıyla etkili iş ilişkisi içerisinde ve çeşitli etkileşimler sonucunda, birbirlerine karşı oluşturdukları davranışların tutarlılığı, çalışanların örgüte olan bağlılıklarını azaltan ve onların etkili ve verimli çalışmalarına engel olan örgütsel sinizmi ortadan kaldıracaktır.Örgütsel davranış araştırmalarında son yıllarda yer almaya başlayan iki önemli konu, örgütsel sessizlik ve örgütsel sinizm kavramlarıdır. İnsan ilişkilerinin yoğun bir biçimde yaşandığı, müşteri tatminin esas alındığı yeni, yaratıcı ve farklı düşüncelere sürekli ihtiyaç duyan turizm sektöründe örgütsel sessizlik ile örgütsel sinizm davranışları arasında bir ilişki olabileceği araştırmanın çıkış noktasını oluşturmuştur. Tartışma sürecine katkı sağlamak amacıyla bu çalışmada, örgütsel sessizliğin örgütsel sinizm üzerindeki etkisi karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenmiş bulunmaktadır. Söz konusu araştırmanın, uygulayıcılara ve alandaki teorik çalışmalara katkı sağlayacağı umulmaktadır.
