Abstract

This study presents the analytical sizing and finite element analysis (FEA) of a 0.75 kW, three-phase, four-pole squirrel-cage induction motor. The motor is designed for a 400 V, 50 Hz supply using selected magnetic and electrical loadings, output coefficient, aspect ratio, winding parameters, and rotor-slot geometry. The resulting dimensions are transferred to Ansys Maxwell, where a 2D model is used for electromagnetic analysis and a 3D model is used to check the spatial geometry. The motor has 36 stator slots and 28 rotor slots, with a stator bore diameter of 83.78 mm and an active core length of 75.67 mm. The analytical model gives a power factor of about 0.87 and an efficiency close to 80% in the rated operating region. The Maxwell results show the expected four-pole magnetic field, with the highest local flux density reaching about 2.14 T, mainly in the tooth regions. Transient analysis at the selected operating speed shows an initial electromagnetic response before the torque approaches a steady condition. The current reaches about 12.5 A during the initial transient and then decreases toward the steady-state region. These results show that the combined analytical and FEA approach can be used for the preliminary design and evaluation of low-power induction motors.
