Abstract

This study deals with the radical transformation of Turkish conservative circles in the context of consumer society. In this context, the dynamics of consumption-based change of daily life were examined; marks of consumption habits and related differentiation have been traced in the daily life of the conservative segment. The primary objective of this study is to answer questions such as "How does Turkey’s social, cultural and economic transition trigger the change of the consumer society?"; "how it transforms the conservative circles?"; “how the new consumption-based conservatism phenomenon meets in daily life?". The study was designed with conceptual analysis method, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The main concepts discussed in the study are conservatism and consumer society. In this study, it is tried to analyze the practices of change in fashion, entertainment and leisure habits of conservatives who are trying to adapt to consumption society. Considering the fact that conservatives create their own habitus, the study tested the debate that transformation into consumer society was inevitable and that conservatives would be more influenced by neoliberal currents over time and resolved within the consumption culture. It is hoped that this study, which includes the processes of transformation into conservative consumption and consumption society and concrete examples of transformation, will contribute to the discussions of daily life and consumer society.
