Abstract

Purpose: To compare the biometric indices of eyes with primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) and occludable angle (OA) cases with normal eyes. Materials and Methods: A total of 26 patients who have 48 eyes and control subjects of 31 paients who have 60 eyes were studied. After routine eye exam,A-scan ultrasonography was performed to all patients. The results were compared with kruskal wallis, mann whitney and t tests. Results: Of the 48 eyes that belong to 26 patients 22 eyes were primary angle closure glaucoma and 26 eyes were occludable angle. The mean age was 67.5 in PACG, 54.8 in OA and 57.6 in control group. In PACG group the mean anterior chamber deepth (ACD) was 2.59 mm, lens thicknes (LT) 4.95 mm and the axial lenght (AL) was 22.61 mm. In OA group the same values were 2.60 mm, 4.70 mm and 22.15 mm. In control group the mean values found were 3.11 mm for ACD, 4.43 mm for LT and 22.90 mm for AL. When the mean biometric results were compared between patients and control groups ACD, LT, AL, ACD/AL, LT/AL were significiantly different. Conclusions: To determine the risk groups in PACG and OA patients and to search for the patients which are goins from OA to PACG, we suggest to use biometric indices together with the clinic findings.
