Abstract

Penetran cardiothoracic wounds are very common among war casualties. Those injuries require prompt and specific treatment in aim to decrease mortality and late morbidity. Two dimensional echocardiography has gained a role in the management of the acute complications of penetrating cardiothoracic trauma and precisely localizing retained bullet fragments within the heart. We describe a patient who survived a penetrating gunshot wound to the chest. In this case, it was shown that the bullet localized outside the pericardium on the echocardiography. No surgical intervention was performed to the hemodynamically stable patient and the patient underwent follow-up program.
