Abstract

In this study, the presence of slime factor in 100 coagulate negative Staphylococci (CNS) isolated from blood cultures was investigated by using standard tube, micro dilution plate, and Christensen and Congo red agar methods. Specificity of all the methods was 100% while sensitivity was as follows: Christensen method 96.8%, standard tube method 95% and Congo red agar method 92%. No statistically significant difference insensitivity and specificity has been found between the methods (p > 0.05). In 63 of 100 isolates slime positivity was found. To investigate the relationship between the slime positivity and the antibiotic resistance, minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of each antibiotic for slime positive and negative groups have be en compared. Higher resistance rates were observed in slime positive group than that of slime negative group (p> 0.05).
