Abstract

Aspergillus and Candida spp are the opportunistic fungi that are frequently observed in immune compromised patients. These fungal infections also occur frequently in children who have been treated for malignancy. We describe a case of a 8 years old girl who was treated with a chemotherapy protocol of ALL in the department of pediatric hematology and oncology. While her treatment was carrying out, a mass was determined in the nasal cavity and maxillary sinuses. Aspergillus fumigatus and Candida kefyr were isolated from samples of this mass. Susceptibility testing to amphotericine B was performed by using in vitro microdilution technique. Both of these agents were found to be susceptible to amphotericine B.
