Her mekânda olduğu gibi kütüphaneler de toplumların belleğinde bir yeredinir. Toplum belleğindeki kütüphane kurumunun farkındalığı ve algısı kütüphanelerin son dönemde artan ve çeşitlenen hizmetleriyle kullanıcılarına sunduğu olanaklardandolayı olumlu yönde gelişmektedir. Son yıllarda eskiye oranla kütüphanelere olan ilginin arttığı bilinmektedir. Bu durum, kurumların vizyon ve misyonları doğrultusundakullanıcı yararına faaliyetlerini gerçekleştiren kütüphaneler oluşturmalarını zorunlukılmaktadır. Oluşturulan bu kütüphanelerin, kullanıcı ihtiyaçlarını doğru ve eksiksizbir şekilde karşılayabilmesi için ise kütüphanenin 5 temel unsurunun (bütçe, personel,kullanıcı, derme ve mekân) uygun biçimde bir araya getirilmesi gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada kütüphanenin temel unsurlarından biri olan “mekân” incelenecektir.
